【短文】The New Girl in Class
【短文】班里的新同学
The bell rings. It is the start of a new term. A girl stands at the front of the classroom. She has a bottle in her hand and a red eraser on her book.
铃响了。新学期的开始。一个女孩站在教室前面。她手里拿着一个瓶子，书上有一块红色橡皮。
“Hello, everyone. My name is Emma. I am from Canada. Nice to meet you,” she says. “You can call me Em.”
“大家好。我叫艾玛。我来自加拿大。很高兴见到你们，”她说。“你们可以叫我Em。”
The class teacher, Mr. Li, smiles. “Emma is your new classmate. Please greet each other and make friends with her.”
班主任李老师笑了。“艾玛是你们的新同学。请互相问候，和她交朋友。”
A boy named Jack puts up his hand. “Do you have a full name?” he asks. “Emma is my first name. My last name is Brown,” Emma says. “My full name is Emma Brown.”
一个叫杰克的男孩举手。“你有全名吗？”他问。“艾玛是我的名字。我的姓是布朗，”艾玛说。“我的全名是艾玛·布朗。”
“Do you like sports?” Jack asks. “Yes, I play tennis and ping-pong. I would like to join the sports club,” Emma says. “Great! We play ping-pong together every day,” Jack says.
“你喜欢运动吗？”杰克问。“是的，我打网球和乒乓球。我想加入体育社团，”艾玛说。“太好了！我们每天一起打乒乓球，”杰克说。
At lunch, Emma sits next to Jack in the dining hall. “What is this?” she asks, looking at the food. “It is Mapo tofu and hot pot. It is delicious,” Jack says. “How about Beijing roast duck? It is special too.”
午饭时，艾玛在食堂坐在杰克旁边。“这是什么？”她看着食物问。“这是麻婆豆腐和火锅。很好吃，”杰克说。“北京烤鸭呢？也很特别。”
“Oh, I know hot pot! It is fun,” Emma says. “But I have a question. What is ‘CPC Founding Day’? I see it on the notice board.”
“哦，我知道火锅！很有趣，”艾玛说。“但我有个问题。什么是‘CPC Founding Day’？我在公告栏上看到的。”
Jack looks at her. “It is a special day in China. It is on July 1st. We have a holiday,” he says. “And National Day is on October 1st. We raise the flag at school.”
杰克看着她。“这是中国的一个特殊日子。在7月1日。我们放假，”他说。“国庆节在10月1日。我们在学校升旗。”
“I see. Thank you,” Emma says. “You’re welcome,” Jack says. “Do you have other questions?”
“我明白了。谢谢，”艾玛说。“不客气，”杰克说。“你还有其他问题吗？”
“Yes. What is ‘PLA Day’?” Emma asks. Jack laughs. “It is on August 1st. It is for the army. My grandparent is a soldier. He is funny and handsome,” Jack says.
“有。什么是‘PLA Day’？”艾玛问。杰克笑了。“在8月1日。是军队的节日。我爷爷是军人。他很有趣，也很帅，”杰克说。
Emma smiles. “You have a lot of information. I am happy to get to know you.”
艾玛笑了。“你知道好多信息。很高兴认识你。”
After lunch, they go to the sports field. Jack takes out two ping-pong bats. “Let’s play,” he says. “I am not good at it,” Emma says. “No problem. I can help you,” Jack says.
午饭后，他们去运动场。杰克拿出两个乒乓球拍。“我们打吧，”他说。“我不太会，”艾玛说。“没问题。我可以帮你，”杰克说。
They play for an hour. Emma misses the ball many times. Jack says, “It is OK. You can do it. Remember, keep your eye on the ball.” Emma tries again. This time, she hits the ball. It goes across the net.
他们打了一个小时。艾玛好几次没接到球。杰克说：“没关系。你能做到的。记住，眼睛盯着球。”艾玛再试一次。这次她打到了球。球飞过网。
“Good job!” Jack says. Emma smiles. “Thank you. I like this school. I have fun here.”
“干得好！”杰克说。艾玛笑了。“谢谢。我喜欢这所学校。我在这里很开心。”
The sun goes down. The flag on the building moves in the wind. Emma and Jack walk to the school gate. “See you tomorrow,” Jack says. “See you. Bye for now,” Emma says.
太阳下山了。大楼上的旗子在风中飘动。艾玛和杰克走向校门。“明天见，”杰克说。“再见。回头见，”艾玛说。
